ABOUT US
At LAGGSOGA (85 set), we play a vital role in the continued success and development of our alma mater. Through various initiatives and projects, we provide invaluable support that enhances the school’s infrastructure, academic programs, and overall reputation. Please take a look at the current project, the renovation of the ground floor hostel, we are undertaking to directly and positively impact the generations to come.
LAGGS was founded on the 27th January 1955 and birthed into the capable hands of an Amazon, Miss Olubusola Phillips ‘Oga’ as the first Principal and she retired in 1977. The school started at 17 Broad Street, Lagos Island and then moved to Idiagbon before finally becoming stationary in Surulere.
The mission of the proprietors (Anglican Communion) was to provide an excellent education for the girl-child and develop her into a self-reliant lady and disciplined mother.
The school uniform was a purple and white striped cotton frock with a purple beret, while the school motto, ‘Our best in everything’ was beautifully crafted on it.
The uniform later changed to the khaki pinafore and purple collarets. The uniform also included a purple blazer with the school crest imprinted on the pocket.
In 1976, the Federal military government in its perception decided to take over all privately and mission owned schools. This was described as the Dark Age in the education system in Nigeria.
LAGGSOGA (’85 SET) OBJECTIVES
- To raise Women of Substance by fostering links between LAGGSOGA and the School.
- To promote the interests and image of the school and aid its development.
- To encourage members of the association to take up an active interest in the life of the School.
- To undertake and support projects that will enhance and preserve the School.
OUR PROJECT
This year, Lagos Anglican Girls Grammar School achieved a milestone of seventy years of nation-building through educating, grooming, and developing the girl child. The memorable week-long festivities provided a platform for numerous alumni from around the world to reconnect with one another and visit the school. The visit to the school was bittersweet, rejoicing at the number of lives continually being impacted. However, the state of the school’s infrastructure requires urgent attention to sustain an enabling learning environment for current and future students.
Thankfully, the 1985 set will also be hitting the milestone of forty years since passing out from the school and would like to go beyond festivities to address some of the infrastructural challenges we discovered. Our plan is to renovate and upgrade the ground floor school hostel, in order to promote the sanitary hygiene of the school’s current and future students.
We are therefore soliciting for your kind Sponsorship towards actualising this laudable project and become a partner in a shared value of commitment to improving standards of education and community.
Imagine the impact:
- Improved Health and Hygiene: Modern, sanitary living conditions will drastically reduce the risk of illness and contribute to the overall health of our girls.
- Enhanced Learning Environment: A comfortable and secure living space will allow students to focus on their studies and extracurricular activities, leading to improved academic performance.
- Increased Student Morale: A revitalised hostel will foster a sense of pride and belonging, creating a more positive and supportive school experience.

SCHOOL SONG
We are Anglican School Girls this is the song we sing
From the fields of knowledge what fruits do we bring
Love of Home and country best in work and play
Faith in God who lights us ever on our way
Here we learn the skills of eye and brain and hand
Here we learn to labour love and understand
On the paths of duty we shall not be slow
Cheerfully and gladly singing as we go
Place of home and friendship school we love so well
In your courts forever may endeavour dwell
We your children thank thee
This shall be our prayer
God’s peace be upon you Alma Mater fair.
